Amy’s Approach to Sound Healing
by Amy Hudson, The Sound Healing Center of Lexington
When I first experienced sound healing, I didn’t fully understand what was happening—I just knew I felt different. More emotional. Inspired. As if I had found a key that unlocked emotions tucked away, long forgotten. I had always been someone who intellectualized my feelings. Sound found a way to bypass my mind, allowing me to feel rather than think my way through.
Since opening The Sound Healing Center of Lexington, my intention has always been to provide a space where others can navigate their own process in a way that is meaningful to them. My approach to sound healing is both intuitive and grounded in study. It honors ancient practices while acknowledging the unique pressures of modern life—especially for those of us who are overextended, undersupported, and often running in circles.
Breathe First
Every session begins with the breath. Too often, when things get tense, we hold our breath without even realizing it. Before we bring in sound, we gently shift the body into a state of receptivity. The breath is our gateway to the parasympathetic nervous system. It anchors us to the present moment and prepares the body to receive the vibrations that follow.
The Soundscape
I work with a variety of instruments—crystal singing bowls, the rain drum, frame drums, and more—to guide people into alpha and theta brainwave states. These are the states where the body can rest, reset, and repair. Each journey begins with the slow, rhythmic hum of a single singing bowl. This simple tone opens the door to a complex meditative experience. As brainwaves slow, the nervous system softens, and a quiet spaciousness emerges. From there, release becomes possible. Creativity returns. Inspired ideas surface.
A Safe and Supportive Space
The Sound Healing Center was built with intention—from the aesthetic to the lighting to the layout. I wanted to create a space that feels immediately grounding—where people can let go, drop in, and be held. As a Reiki Master and long-time practitioner, energetic integrity is essential. The space is cleared and protected before every session.
Education and Empowerment
While sound healing is deeply experiential, I believe in demystifying the process. I often offer brief teachings before or after sessions—on how sound interacts with the chakras, how frequencies affect the body, and how you can bring sound into your daily life, even if it’s as simple as humming through a moment of overwhelm.
Collaboration and Community
One of the great joys of this work is connection. I regularly collaborate with other practitioners—acupuncturists, Reiki healers, musicians, and breathwork facilitators—to create offerings that support collective well-being. Sound is not a solo practice. It reverberates between us. It builds community.
A Practice Rooted in Trust
Sound healing isn’t about fixing anyone. It’s about creating the conditions in which healing becomes possible. If you break your arm, the doctor sets the bone and provides the brace—but your body does the healing. The same principle applies to your emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being.
Sound healing invites you to listen—to your body, your spirit, and the messages that emerge when the noise quiets down. My role is to hold space, offer the vibration, and trust that your system knows exactly what to do with it.
If you're curious, come experience it for yourself. You don’t have to know how it works. Just bring your breath, your body, and an open heart.
